Are you operating in the likeness of a fine oiled machine?

Psalms 133:2-3; It it like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard, that went down to the skirts of his garment. It is like the dew on Mount Hermon, falling on the hills of Zion. That is where the Lord has promised His blessing, life never ends.
At the end of December and just before the beginning of a New Year, I always like to examine my past year and what the Lord has done for me and also examine how I have led my team and the people of God in that year. Did I flow the way in which God wanted, did I use my gift to the fullest or did I do my own thing because I have been given a role or a title? I take a close look inside of my spirit and I always ask the Lord to show me where I need to make changes or make corrections, trust me there is always corrections to be made. Do I need to become more firmer and more efficient in my leading? Have I backed down in my leadership skills as a leader? Firmer doesn’t always mean harsher just leading with the God kind of confidence. I want to be established and a very fine oiled machine, not perfect but striving for the best. The dictionary desribes a fine oiled machine as someone or something that functions effectively, this also goes for members of a team as well. If we are going to work in unity and be in one accord, we all must bring our best to the table and be those well oiled machines that run smoothly. Now that doesn’t mean we are all robots, no, for we all have different personalities and traits. We all walk at a different drum beat, but if we are walking in unity with each other then all those drum beats flow in perfect harmony with each other. What a fragrance and a sound they will create in an atmosphere. This should be the goal of every ministry, leader, team member and in life as well.
I love how Psalm 133:2-3 has only three verses, but those three verses are extremely powerful and valuable to a believer, God’s promises. In verse 2, it is talking about precious oil running down Aaron’s head, beard and down his body. The oil here is a symbol of God’s protection and of His blessings. The oil covered Aaron from the top of his head down to his feet. Verse 3, it is also talking about the dew of Hermon in the mountains of Zion. The word dew represents freshness, abundance and in connection with your life and in your growth. The dew mentioned here in verse three is representing the supply of water to something that was once dry (replenishes). The oil brings softening to the heart and provides fruit especially in sowing into others needs, wants and in their callings, therefore producing seeds for their own future. Have you ever just stopped and looked out in the early morning hours when the dew is present especially up in the mountains ranges out in the meadows, it is quite beautiful and glistening. Again, the bible speaks of the dew as the favor and the blessing of God. The dew helps to bring down the heat of the day and it refreshes and cools the air and the earth (self watering) and the dew always has a unique fragrance floating throughout the air.
Let me ask you this question, does your oil give off a fragrance? Is your oil a sweet smell or does it make people move away from you? Does your oil bring unity, one accord and putting others before yourself? Some great things to think about. In verse three it says, “The Lord promised His blessing and life never ends”. We must have that kind of dew and that kind of freshness the abundance and the blessings. When you are part of a team, it takes togetherness and patience at times, and a lot of sacrifices. That word sacrifices isn’t a popular word today for the most part, most people don’t think much on how they are part of the unity within a team. They sometimes can bring an attitude of, It’s all about me, what would they do without me, or it’s ok I don’t have to show up today for they have people to cover me. People can come in with bad attitudes and their fragrance that was supposed to bring forth a sweet smell has now tainted all the rest of the people’s fragrance and therefore causing that “Well oiled machine” to be all clogged up and then stopping the flow and the anointing oil to flow out over an atmosphere. This is why it is so important that we examine ourselves everyday and we are bringing that sweet fragrance everywhere we go. God is looking to anoint every believer with His anointing oil, but it does come with a price. We must be so willing to put aside all our wants, differences and trying to prove our gifts and how we think things should be done. We should come in with rolled up sleeves and ask how we can lift up the arms of our leaders when they get weary they can feel our prayers, strength to move forward knowing that there are people in their corners operating in unity and in one accord. Just go and read in the bible how God sent men and women to help others ministries before their own, for promotion comes while serving others and they proudly serve with a heart of gratitude, no jealousies or talking about the leaders behind closed doors. If you have a calling on your life, and we all are called to do something for the Lord, then how we treat those over us and under us, determines how fragrant your oil will be and how fine oiled your machine (person) runs. In this New Year of 2025, let us be like Psalm 133:2-3, let the precious oil be upon our heads running down our faces down to our feet and allow the dew to bring watering to our dry souls and bring forth God’s protection and abundant blessings that will never end. It is going to take self examining, humility, discipline like never before, never take an attitude in which you serve as a duty or as a drudgery, but see it as a blessing.
